Destination Found!

Well...4 days, 10 states, a few cheeseburgers, and a shoulder saturated in drool (from the dogs) later we made it here to San Diego. Our only real casualty was a water dish left some place in Arizona with the retired Corvette Clan at a quick pit stop. You can thank yoursevles for our safe but boring trip...if it weren't for all of your well-wishes and prayers, perhaps we'd have more to tell you about...maybe a flat tire, a sick dog, a car jacking, or even alien abduction. But noooooooooooooooo...here's a quick recap of the actual events...

originally planned day 1- Monday, July 16- surprise surprise! we didn't leave on time...how do we know you're not surprised? the laughter in our faces gave you all away when we said we were going up north the weekend before we were scheduled to leave...it all worked out nicely, however. We had the chance to go downtown Mt. Clemens one more time with some friends to wish it farewell.

actual day 1- Tuesday, July 17- we had a relatively smooth take off...we had to pack a few more things, say good bye to the house, and of course, say bye to the folks one last time so we were on the road by a little before noon. Expecting an 8-9 hour drive, you can imagine our distress at the 12 hours it took us (thanks to our friend at AAA). We added some time to our trip but we made it safe. We had a really nice quick visit with Adrienne's friends Christina and Wes, who are getting married in September (way to go guys!), and settled down for a snooze after our first lonnnng day!

day 2- Wednesday, July 18- up fairly early again, we saw Christina and Wes off to work, took the ladies for a nice quick run, and had a quick pack. We got ourselves a little McDonald's (thanks Kelly!), fueled up, (Thanks Ben, Jill, Kim, and our coworkers for the gas cards!) and off we went! On to Amarillo. We got to Oklahoma City, tired of gold fish crackers and granola bars, and decided to stop early for a good meal and a nice, well needed rest. We found a great little Best Western with a nice restaurant near by in Yukon, Oklahoma. With a little steak and a beer in our systems, we were ready for the next half of our trip.

day 3- Thursday, July 19- by today we were getting serious. We had a quick continental breakfast at the hotel, fueled up, and we were off. Our plan was Holbrook, Arizona to visit some friends and stay for the night...a good 800 miles or so. We put in about 13 hours and made it unscathed...but tired. We stayed with my old roommate and friend, Chad, and the ladies had a chance to catch up with their old friend, Max (Chad's lab) and the new addition, Bow. We went out for a couple games of pool, visited with Dain and Nicki with their new addition Rydan, John and Anna, Fred, Jodie, Melvin, Megan and Travis. Not much had changed.

day 4- Friday, July 20- our final day was upon us. Chad whipped us up some pancakes and eggs, Mattie and Saada had a good romp in the yard, and we were ready. We stopped quick to see John's new house, show Adrienne the Junior High where I used to teach, and of course, to say hi to my good friend Bill. It was a nice stop. Always great to see old friends.

I know this is getting long and boring so let me wrap it up...we pushed through the 107 degree heat down through Phoenix and as we rode the 8 into California we were a little worried as the temperature stayed very warm...the only stop on the whole trip where the dogs wanted to get back into the car because the ground was too hot to walk on! On our last hour or so, however, the temperature dropped about 30 degrees. We rolled in about seven o'clock to the 75 degree warm welcome of Nicky, Randy, Kyle and a few other friends who helped us hammer out the unpacking. We had some food and a beer, played fetch with Mattie Mae, inflated our bed (yes, I said INFLATED our bed) and crashed for our first night's rest in our new home.

so...in a nutshell....we're here safe and ready...thanks for all of your support everyone!

that's all for now....talk soon
